This practice, however, no longer prevails. The Church of England has isolated itself from the broader reality of the Anglican Communion, prioritizing local agendas and disregarding the impact of its decisions on the world unity that once centered on Canterbury.<\/p>\n
The appointment of Sarah Mullally comes as no surprise to us. However, we reaffirm that such a choice does not affect our journey. We are Anglicans, but we are not British; we are Anglicans, but we have no institutional link with the See of Canterbury. We declared, in February 2023, in communion with the provinces affiliated with GAFCON and GSFA (Global South Fellowship of Anglican Churches), that we no longer recognize the See of Canterbury or the Archbishop of Canterbury as a symbol of unity in our faith.<\/p>\n
The Anglican Church in Brazil is fully autonomous, with its own distinct identity, ecclesiological organization, and doctrine, rooted in the traditions of reformed and historical Anglicanism.
